In 2006, the FSDT funded a collaboration of FinMark Trust, Steadman Group and the National Bureau of Statistics to conduct the first ever national survey of the demand for, and barriers to, accessing financial services survey. This FinScope survey was conducted in July-August 2006. The FSDT is currently funding the same collaboration to conduct the repeat FinScope survey 2009.
The FinScope Survey 2006 provided invaluable insights into the demand for and use of financial services in Tanzania. The second FinScope will be a useful tool to track changes; reflect innovations within the market as well as evaluating of the effects of public and private initiatives, drawing on solid empirical evidence.
